Huntsville Alabama June 29 Pitcher Tompkins the twirling star of the Fort Smith team of the Western Association who refused to report and has not played since then has wired Manager Riggs that he is coming Riggs has wired Tompkins to hurry as he is short of pitchers
The notice states today is the final day to pay the federal corporation tax for Arkansas. About 3,000 corporations owe the tax and a 5 percent penalty will apply after ten days. Last year payment levels were reported but not finished.
The report notes a $45,000 figure and estimates about $70,000 for this year, despite many charters surrendering. It states corporations with annual income under $3,008 are not subject to the tax.
Story and Rowland attorneys file a petition with the secretary of state to place a referendum on Ordinance No 119 passed June 19 1910. The ordinance, effective July 1, restricts running at large of stock inside Harrison city limits and 300 petitioners seek to restrain it and allow a vote in April 1912.
The faculties of the two medical colleges meet tonight at their offices to discuss a merger. They aim to report to the University Trustees sub-committee by July 5 on a plan where P B College would merge with Arkansas Medical College and potentially be taken over by the state under an act passed by the legislature.
Earl Gilchrist, a 15 year old Negro youth, is found guilty of murder in the first degree for the slaying of Will Longley. The jury returns the death penalty by hanging, with Gilchrist present and unmoved as the verdict is read.
The secretary of state lists several corporations surrendering charters including Arkansas State Co. of Jonesboro with W. W. Cat e and Hiett Waglon Co. of Jonesboro led by G. W. Clubberhouse. The Citizen's Oil and Gas Co. of Siloam Springs is chartered for oil and gas with 20000 capital and 4400 subscribed, led by L. J. Rees and J. T. McKinnon. The Bishop Scott Land and Lumber Co. of Cabool in Cleveland county is formed with 15000 capital under J. W. Bishop. Many firms choose partnerships due to heavy taxes.
Dr and Mrs A A Reeder of Sutton are in the city. Many citizens will spend the Fourth of July in Texarkana. Mrs E Y Blakely leaves for Texarkana for several days. Reminder to provide horses with water during hot dusty days for better service.
