Arkansas secretary Hodges accepts editor apology on tax issue
The Philadelphia Record printed an editorial error blaming Arkansas Governor Earl W. Hodges for vetoing the Income Tax Amendment. Hodges received a sarcastic letter from the editor and the editor published it with apologies. Hodges says he will cover related expenses from revenue and deposit the balance to the state treasury. A record of supplies and vehicle tag blanks has been opened in Hodges office. Owners must sign an application containing a dozen questions and require five different number tags per vehicle.

The Nevada County Gin Company was organized with 7500 capital. Stockholders include D L Dillard W C Melts L N Westmoreland and D L McRae. Officers are D L Dillard president L N Westmoreland vice president and W C Wells secretary treasurer. Construction for a new gin house north of the city starts next Wednesday with a 30 day build and operations to begin by August 15. The plant will use a four stand Monger gin system from Continental Gin Company with capacity of 50 bales per day and plans include a grist mill and feed crushers later.

Crop Prospects Bright Across State After General Rains
Reports from all sections say recent general rains have improved prospects to near record levels for this season. Only a few fields show corn losses from early June drought, while thousands of acres of cotton due to dry ground now promise good yields if frost stays away. Other corn and cotton, worked well, are in excellent condition. Farmers are in high spirits and expect a prosperous year and a fruitful harvest.
Norwood Candidate for Governor
The report says Governor Donaghey may seek a third term while Attorney General Norwood would not run for governor but seek re election. Norwood denies the rumor and confirms plans to canvass the state for governor starting December 1 with the help of his brother Dr M L Norwood of Lockesburg.
