Draft calls announced for large July mobilization

Washington reports Senator Chamberlain proposing to call 875,000 draft men from August to December to exhaust Class 1. A separate call mobilizes 124,525 white and black registrants. Yanks Ripple Germans in Belleau Wood Capture 250

American forces stormed Belleau Wood in France last night and captured 250 German prisoners including seven officers. The 347th German division suffered the most, with fierce hand to hand fighting remnants and hidden machine gun positions uncovered by dawn. An ongoing 13 hour American artillery bombardment preceded the assault.

Former State Treasurer Crockett Remains Seriously Ill

Little Rock June 27 Former State Treasurer J. W. Crockett continues seriously ill with little improvement. He appears to be gradually growing weaker despite medical skill. This week doctors performed a second blood transfusion, a full pint of healthy blood injected into his arteries, but with no apparent success. This marks the second operation of the kind.

List of Deserters Publicized by Army Authorities

In Little Rock on June 27 a public release by Adjt. Gen. England lists deserters from the national army. Named are Will Brown Willie Franklin Walter A Geising Ed Gibson Wiley Harris William L Henley Harrison Henderson Wallace 8 Klein Thomas Lambert Henry F Nix Reuben Sal ter Willie Stewart John F Straun and Frank Weaver. A bounty of 50 dollars is offered for arrest and delivery to Camp Pike. The note concludes urging thrift through War Savings Stamps.
