Arkansas Aims for Government Nitrate Plant Location

Hon W F McKnight of the Arkansas Railroad Commission champions Arkansas as a feasible site for a federally funded nitrate plant. With a $20 million federal appropriation, he argues Arkansas has water power and central location, urging Senators Robinson and Clarke and Congressman Goodwin to join the feasibility study amid Democratic convention support. The plant would supply ammunition in war and fertilizer in peace.

Signing of liquor petitions forbidden by Masonic law

J P Kemper grand master of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Arkansas states it is a Masonic offense to sign petitions to repeal the statewide prohibition law. Signing such petitions could expel or suspend Masons, with lodges ordered to act on violations. The 1914 edict forbade Masons from signing petitions for saloons under the Going law.

New York June 26 Mrs Hettie Green said to be improving today. Her son Colonel Edward H R Green stated the illness is not serious though at age eighty any indisposition might become serious for the wealthiest woman in the world.

Arkansas on Wheels itinerary planned for October expo

Promoters met railroad officials in Little Rock to set the itinerary for the Arkansas on Wheels trip to showcase the state's resources in October. The train will stop in Birmingham Atlanta Charlotte Danville Richmond Parkersburg Columbus Cincinnati Indianapolis and Illinois and St Louis on return. Dining car crew and chef from the New York Central who served the 1911 and 1912 excursions will again be on duty. Special stops are planned at University and Agricultural School towns for exhibits.

National Guard Heads to Mexican Border from New York

June 20 New York dispatch reports Connecticut National Guard units over 2000 strong will depart for El Paso via Campbell Hall Buffalo Chicago Kansas City and Fort Worth to join border patrols. Additional orders send 16000 New York New Jersey and Massachusetts troops to Brownsville and El Paso with infantry regiments cavalry squadrons engineers artillery field hospitals and ambulance units en route tonight or tomorrow.

Primary Election Petition Filed With Secretary of State

June in Little Rock Judge Jos W House filed the Pure Primary election law petition with Secretary of State Hodges. Brundidge of Searcy aided circulation. A total of 126 petitions carried 14045 names though 10841 signatures were required. Additional petitions were expected before the filing deadline.
