Bauxite Company Faces New Circuit Court Assessment

In Saline County Arkansas the American Bauxite Co case returns to circuit court after five years of disputes over property assessments. The 12,000 acre site including the plant was valued at varying amounts through 1909 to 1912, with a final Benton ruling setting the assessment at 876,000. The state seeks to push toward one million with new evidence. Attorneys for both sides include David A. Gates and George Vaughan for the state and Tom M. Mehaffey for the company. The firm runs a major bauxite deposit underpinning aluminum.

Little Rock designates Southern Trust as city funds depository

Little Rock announces Southern Trust Company as the city’s depository after the State National Bank failure. About $20,000 remains tied up, but is protected by the treasurer’s bond. Some say the bank may pay depositors in full and offer stockholders 40 or 50 cents on the dollar.

Poll tax urged by Little Rock Youth group

The Young Men's Good Government Club of Little Rock calls on its several hundred members to pay poll tax by July 3, 1914. Taxpayers who are otherwise qualified may vote in general or primary elections in Arkansas before the first Monday in July 1915. Secretary L. P. Biggs warns members to act now or be barred from elections in the period described.

Savings Association Surrenders Charter in Little Rock

The Express men's Savings Association, incorporated in Little Rock March 4 1809 with $25 000 capital, has surrendered its charter after failing to commence business. J W Massey served as president. The Southern Foundry and Machine Co authorized to sell 4000 stock shares by Blue Sky Department.
