United States Demands Prisoners Held at Carrizal

Washington on June 25 a diplomatic protest demanded immediate release of American troopers captured at Carrizal and sought a definite Carranza government statement on its action. Community fairs promoted for Pulaski County

In Little Rock on June 26 Farm Demonstrators Geo Pye and CK Lowe promote rural community fairs for Pulaski county. Four fairs have been arranged and will occur the week before the Pulaski county fair in October. Demonstrators work on premium lists and prize winners will compete at the county fair.

Would Reorganize Prescott Company

Capt Will A Smith of Rochelle Louisiana writes that if needed he will return to Prescott Arkansas to reorganize the Prescott and Nevada county company and lead an old guard again. He notes requests from former members but says two regiments are full for now and urges publicity for the matter. His letter is welcomed by locals and Smith’s supporters.

Exposition Commission Seeks 4500 For Medals

Little Rock June 26 The Exposition Commission seeks about 4500 to pay for medals awarded to Arkansas exhibitors at the Panama Pacific Exposition. Arkansas won 318 medals, but delivery hinges on payment. Secretary Hillory Jennings notes Arkansas led in fruit medals and Boys' Corn Clubs with high yield at low cost, and the commission aims to satisfy every exhibitor by funding the medals, including gold ones worth 15 each.

Standridge Leads Break At Tucker Standridge Leads Break At Tucker

Led by Yates Standridge a group of 17 convicts at Tucker state farm overpowered two guards at midnight. They forced the opening of a gun case and escaped. Names include Charles Meyers Jim Hayden John Needham Ortg Williams Joe Johnson Clayton Patrick. Night watchman and guard were held up. 250 inmates in the stockade slept through. Iray Gill to assume duties as Fort Smith secretary

Ray Gill, ex deputy commissioner of the Arkansas Department of Education, will leave for Fort Smith next Sunday to take duties as secretary of the Border City commercial organization. He will represent Fort Smith on the Arkansas on Wheels train and plans a fall festival using vacant business district buildings. He argues fairs are not essential and aims to have merchants run stores and sell novelties to keep profits local.
