87th Division Moves From Camp Pike to Camp Dix

Reports from Little Rock say the entire 87th Division including all units and officers has left Camp Pike for Camp Dix and is expected to depart for France soon. Arkansas recruitment will repopulate Camp Pike with National Army volunteers as July orders dispatch about 9,000 more from Arkansas.

Premier Lloyd George vows fresh blow in coming days

London June 24 Premier Lloyd George warned that the next months would be anxious and a decisive blow could come within hours or days. He said Entente Allied forces are well prepared and Austro-Hungarian retreat is under way with 2000 defenders captured at the Montello spur as Italians push forward amid strong Austrian resistance. He noted cavalry actions across the Piave may ease advance and hailed American troop arrivals in France while acknowledging Russia’s volatile governments complicate any British policy.

Governor Grants Pardon To White County Boy

Gov Brough pardons Willard Seaton 14 after burglary grand larceny conviction at White County circuit court He was sentenced to reform school and the petition bore the circuit judge prosecuting attorney and grand jury foreman plus many White County citizens. Also a notice urges Red Cross War Fund subscriptions due July 1 with payments to treasurer C C Calhoun and no pay for collectors.

German U boats sink troop ship 67 missing

Washington June 24 German submarines off this coast sunk a British transport chartered by the U S government bound for the United States. The 67 crew members are missing, no troops aboard. Four boats from the steamer were located or rescued. one crew landed at Bermuda. The vessel’s identity was not disclosed under a British agreement.
