Red Cross Meetings in Nevada Sunday

A list of Red Cross rally locations and times across Nevada on Sunday shows sessions at Boughton Baptist and Methodist churches with Hon. Thos. C. McRae, Ward's Chapel, Nubbin Hill, Emmet, Artesian, Rosston, Bluff Springs, Carolina church, Mt. Moriah, Laneburg, Sutton, Bluff City, New Hope, Bodean, Shady Grove, Morris Caney church, Pleasant Ridge, Union School House, Delta, Willisville, and other county points. The drive aims to give every resident a chance to help, with speakers and schedules assigned by the local committee.

Little Rock Red Cross campaign tops $100000 expected

The Little Rock Red Cross drive speeds toward a hoped total of at least 100000, about 15000 over its allotment. By noon the fourth day $48000 had been subscribed with 60000 in sight. the women's committee aims for 15000, most of which is located. 200 Rock Island workers pledged two days wages, and Clearing House Association contributed 7000.

Army recruitment drive to secure recruits in Arkansas

A state wide campaign will run next week to recruit men for the Regular army. Stations will operate in Little Rock Fort Smith Texarkana Jonesboro Russellville Pine Bluff Helena Camden Fayetteville and Newport. Groups of 25 or more will be promised assignment to the same regiment so friends can serve together.

American ship sinks German submarine off Atlantic

An American steamer captain reported sighting and engaging a German U-boat on June 4 near Liverpool en route home to port. After evasive maneuvers and gunfire at close range, the submarine was struck and submerged, with the crew escaping in lifeboats as the ship radioed distress. The captain claimed a later hit by gunfire may have sunk the submarine and expressed a celebratory cheer as it vanished.

Governor Issues Appeal to Men of Arkansas

Governor Brough and Gen. England issue a facsimile appeal urging unmarried Arkansas men ages 18 to 40 to enlist during the June 23 to 30 Recruiting Week. The note stresses a 76,000 quota for the Regular Army and calls for immediate action as part of wartime defense.
