Draft age question sparks debate as U S plans men

Washington reports that if Congress widens the draft age either under 21 or over 30, no war department opposition will arise. Secretary Baker said no immediate need, though class one replenishment looms. Senator France proposes 18 to 45. Provost Marshal Crowder backs extension. War plans aim to arm four million by next Jan 1, calling up one million between July and January. Class two invasion could shift manpower without crippling the economy.

Insurance Federation of Arkansas elects leaders

Little Rock, June 19 The Insurance Federation of Arkansas, a nonpolitical body of agents from life to casualty, held its annual meeting. J K Sheppard was elected president and Gordon H Campbell secretary and treasurer after Campbell agreed that the role would not hinder the association’s access to the legislature. Campbell, a prosperous Little Rock businessman, has repeatedly sought office on the Republican ticket but regards public office as unlikely.
