A Sunday dawn fire struck the Presbyterian church steeple and the adjacent manse, a heavy rain and storm hindering efforts. The church and home were destroyed, pastor Rev. H. W. Steen and his family left with only some house goods insured for 1000 dollars on the church and manse and 500 on household effects.
Murfreesboro reports a blue steel diamond about one inch long and half an inch thick found on the Mauney property by John Key. Experts estimate it could yield a 12 karat stone valued at about $8,000 and it is secured in the Pike County Bank vault.
