President Wilson Urges War Labor Refit Through New Service

Washington June 17 President Wilson urged all war work employees to stop recruiting unskilled labor after August 1 except through the new United States Labor Employment Service. He stressed industry uses of force to support the nation and noted War Savings Stamps as tools beyond children.

Safety First men here tomorrow

Prescott residents are urged to attend a Safety First program tomorrow at 2 30 pm at the passenger station platform with speakers including Harry Williams. The event aims to explain railroad crossing safety and avoid injuries while highlighting rules for crossing tracks boarding trains and avoiding rushing trains. American Patrol Crosses Marne Near Chateau Thierry

An American patrol crossed the Marne east of Chateau Thierry and contacted German forces, recrossed by boats after shooting. German attempts to bridge the river were spotted and abandoned. Mustard gas drifts from Belleau Wood as German air activity increases amid heavy artillery and rain.

The Arkansas Automobile Dealers Association board of directors meets in Little Rock next Friday to hear the delegates' report from the national convention in Chicago last week. E. M. Rowe, president of the Little Rock association, will present the report.

French Move Toward Aisne After Local Operation

Paris reports French troops improved positions north and northwest of Hautebraye between the Oise and Aisne. About 100 prisoners were taken and several machine guns captured in the morning action. Troops repulsed German attacks in the Cavieres wood and Vosges as the front line expanded. The war office later noted 870 prisoners and 25 machine guns plus eight trench mortars captured in the region.

Italians Repel Austrian Attack On Piave Front

Italian, French, and British forces launched a counteroffensive against Austro-Hungarian troops on the Asiago plateau Montello front. Across the Piave they fought with heavy losses for the enemy while Italians held lines from St Andrea to Fossa lata. Prisoner counts exceed 120 officers and 4,500 men with air forces downing 44 enemy aircraft in two days.

Arkansas Newspaper Men to Enter Overseas Service

Little Rock June 18 Emmett Buckley formerly manager of the eastern Newspaper Union in Little Rock and now with a Chicago paper concern contemplates soon entering the aviation service of the United States. Clio Harper of the Parke Harper News Service contemplates service with the Overseas Y M C A contingent. He is now in Chicago.
