Germans Attack in Hurtebise Sector on Aisne Front

Paris June 17 report from the war office says a German attack northeast of Cerny was broken up by French artillery. Extremely violent fighting near Hurtebise. reconnoitering parties east of Rheims dispersed. Prisoners taken in the Vosges and Hilsen region. Belgian front saw activity near Steensbrate and Hetsas. several prisoners captured near Gertraucourt.

Canning outfit for supplies to soldiers

June 18 report from Little Rock notes the National Council of Defense ordered an investigation into a second hand canning outfit sale by Northwestern Steel and Tron Co to Bannee Canning Co of Ogden Utah. The plant previously sold by Magnolia to the Utah firm was for soldier sustenance, with car number and routing wired to the National Council’s priority committee.

Portuguese troops repelling enemy attempts in eastern front

The report notes Portuguese forces repelling several enemy assaults since the first of the month. Food bills take priority in Congress for wartime control

Washington June 17 Food control legislation gains priority in Congress as the administration bill to conserve food and distribute necessities during the war moves to debate. The House plans rapid action within a week or ten days, while the Senate faces prolonged debate led by Senator Gore and Senator Chamberlain. Arkansas Fire Risk Inspections Begin Statewide

Little Rock reports that about 200 volunteer insurance men under the state fire marshal will begin inspecting fire risks across Arkansas today. Little Rock June 18 The nation wide Red Cross campaign opens today and runs all week in one of the most intense drives ever. The U S calls for $100,000,000 with Arkansas allotted $1,500,000 and Pulaski and Sebastian counties tagged for $85 000 and $50,000 respectively. Rigid Examination at Officers Training Camp
