Unemployment Aims at Public Works Aid and Labor Reform

Denver June 16 A five member special committee was authorized by the American Federation of Labor to investigate unemployment and possible relief in peacetime. The convention urged Congress to fund public works and improve conditions in cotton mills of the South amid a United Textile Workers strike of over 15,000. A move to abolish the color line gained momentum. Thomas F. McMahon cited mill owners denying homes, groceries, and fair pay. wages fell from 27 to 7 dollars weekly while hours rose to 60-66. A Child Welfare truck arrives in county for a two week assignment in Bradley County.

Hunters Capture Four Wolves North of Prescott

A hunter party led by Dr. G A Buchanan and including George Mc Lellan Horace McKenzie Jim Barham and Herman White captured four of five wolves two months old alive on Lee McCains farm two miles NW of Prescott after trailing from 8 PM. One pup died to the dogs. The mother wolf was pursued toward Emmet but the trail was lost by morning. Fourteen dogs participated. Jim Stark and George East spent part of yesterday in Gordon.

Health officer visits Prescott on anti malaria survey

United States Public Health Service Sanitary Engineer J A LePrince and Sanitary Engineer L G Hastings surveyed Prescott’s anti malaria work from 6 to 8 AM finding no breeding in the control zone and only one location with harmless mosquito hibernation. LePrince praised the high quality of local efforts and said he would return late summer. Hastings also planned to visit Arkadelphia.

Weather outlook and church plans weekend

Friday and Saturday look generally fair with a high near 92 and a low around 70. A church service is planned for next Sunday.

Chamber backs Prescott attendance at state encampment

The Chamber of Commerce adopted resolutions urging full membership of Company C Arkansas National Guard Prescott to attend the State encampment at Camp Pike in July 1921 and requesting employers to grant vacations. It also asks county officials to meet to discuss Bankhead Highway Nevada County link construction. Captain Blake Scott urged wider attendance for the National Guard encampment.

Big Fish Nelson Claims Season Championship

N. B. Nelson was declared season champion after hauling a five pound trout from Blue Lake, surpassing Charles Pittman who held the prior four and three quarter pound record from Grassy Lake. Nelson described the fight as fierce, joking he fought like Dempsey and pulled like a Missouri mule. The item also notes a park concert at 8:00 and promotes Prickly Ash Bitters from Hos terly Drug Store as a digestive tonic.
