Taft Names Harley Man for Marshal in Missouri
President Taft names Edward F. Regenhardt of Cape Girardeau Missouri to succeed W L Morsey as United States marshal for the Eastern district of Missouri. Regenhardt a Cape Girardeau citizen and former chairman of local committee impressed the president with his size and bearing and was pledged support by Gov Hadley and the state Republican organization. Morsey’s term ends July 1 and the post pays 4500 annually with five deputies at 300 monthly each and a chief clerk at 1800. Madriz victory reported from New Orleans says Cape Gracias was captured by Madriz forces in Nicaragua.

Western Union had withdrawn wires from bucket shops, aiding authorities in a crackdown that closed eight shops in three weeks. The firm claimed vast operations with 800 branches and 30 clerks, but faced a sweeping legal battle.

Planter Shot at Window in Ashdown Arkansas
Ashdown June 15. L. W. De Loney a leading planter of southwest Arkansas was assassinated while asleep at his home. An unseen shooter fired two loads of shot into his back through an open window as Mrs. De Loney entered the room during the incident. A prior raid on a white man’s house over stolen meat is thought connected. Sheriff Sanderson leads a posse in a wide search, area tense.

On June 15 memorial services were held at St Mark's Church marking the sixth anniversary of the burning of the excursion steamer General Sl o cum near Hell Gate. About several hundred church members joined some of the 1200 victims of the disaster in this observance.
