Sugar Rationing Orders Issued Across State

Beginning immediately sugar sales are limited to two pounds in cities and five pounds in rural areas with no more than three pounds per person per month. State and county food administrations set domestic canning limits, 15 pounds at a time, with additional allocations as needed. Hoover urged controls on canning sugar purchases. Manufactures of less essential products will see reduced sugar after July 1.

Southern bankers convene to address cotton crop financing

A Texas Bankers Association cot ton committee issued recommendations for a July 5 New Orleans conference of bankers from ten cotton states. They urged cooperation with farmers to avoid disastrous prices for the 1918 crop, calling for better transportation, Fed Reserve support, warehousing with receipts, and a prudent marketing system.

American Break Up Violent Hun Attack On The Marne Front

Paris reports a German assault between Bouresches and Belleau Wood on the Marne front. American troops repelled the attack and inflicted heavy losses while holding gains. Marines captured about four hundred prisoners after the Belleau Wood action, aided by excellent American artillery fire. French guns drive back German counterattack near Courgelles

Paris reports say a concentrated French artillery barrage halted a German counter assault between Courcelles and Mery. German forces briefly occupied Laversine but sustained heavy losses and failed to advance further in the Soissons sector. Allies hold ground near Belloy with slight gains and many Germans surrender. Allied tanks performed notably in the battle.
