An Atlantic Port report notes the German submarine rammed and sunk by the American steamship Kroonland after a two-sided attack. The Admiralty tally shows 22 British ships over 1,600 tons sunk by mine or submarine and 10 under that tonnage, with 6 fishing vessels.
Petrograd reports Elihu Root headed American mission arrived. The war office states German counter attack against British gains on the Souchez river was repulsed. Paris releases official notes detailing artillery fighting near Moulin de Laffaux Mont Camillet and related hills with a night of relative quiet overall.
Little Rock June 14 Governor Brough has accepted an invitation to deliver an address at Altheimer on July Fourth at a large celebration. The announcement follows numerous invitations to speak on Independence Day across the state.
June 14. Little Rock reports Nevada county is asked to raise twenty thousand dollars of the state's million and a half for the American Red Cross by the state convention today. The appeal aims to fund relief efforts across the region.
Commissioner Page examined Atlanta and New Orleans warehousing to guide Arkansas plans. Atlanta operates a private $4,000,000 facility storing 200000 bales with 20 cent insurance, while New Orleans state city project costs $3,000,000 with 124 units, a 1,600 bale capacity per unit, and aims for one million bales total, plus a grain elevator and 30 cent insurance. Warehouse receipts are negotiable nationwide at 5 percent.
C Youngblood of Argenta donated a thirteen pound cabbage to the State Agricultural Department. The Flat Dutch head, priced at ten cents a pound, would yield about $1.90 and feed a company of soldiers. The specimen, part of six thousand plants in the Argenta garden, was processed by Commissioner Page and placed on exhibit at the capitol.
London reports 97 dead and 437 wounded from today raid. Officials describe bombs in the east end, about 15 minutes of fighting as German aircraft were met by anti air guns and patrolling fighters. Hospitals report dozens of serious injuries and multiple child casualties.
Prescott Concert Band plans a large July 4 celebration in the city park with an elaborate street parade public speaking band concerts Home Guard drills an old time ball game and a tennis tournament. Full program to be published later as residents are urged to boost the event.
Ashton Vin cenheller of the State board of control will tour 25 counties to urge county judges to pay for indigent relatives in the State Insane Asylum. An old statute permits the state to require those able to contribute to maintenance. Additional counties will be canvassed by Mr Hall and Mr McCarroll. Expected revenue about 28 000 dollars annually.
