Alton banker Bassett resigns amid reports of shortfalls

Albert E Bassett former cashier of the glass company resigns from civic and business posts as a long unaudited set of books reveals a shortage of about 50000 dollars. A typewritten note claimed he was 21000 short and had invested in speculative schemes. He is described as a devout community figure and faces possible removal to support a liquidating effort. Bassett also resigns as president of the Citizens Building and Swan association.

Hamilton Flies to Philadelphia Sets Record in Flight

Charles K. Hamilton piloted a Curtis biplane from New York to Philadelphia and back in one record cross-country flight. Lawmakers Seek 1.5 Million for Publisher Losses

Representative Bartholdt of St Louis introduced in the House a bill to have the Court of Claims adjudicate the Lewis Publishing Company of St Louis claim for injuries allegedly caused by United States authorities. The measure carries a 1.5 million dollar appropriation, payable only by court decree, and includes a brief for members of Congress.

Chorus Girl Killed in Indianapolis Auto Wreck

A chorus girl, Lennie Alberts of Pittsburg, was instantly killed in an automobile wreck north of Indianapolis on June 14. The victim had come to Indianapolis for performance work. Police said the crash occurred after the car left the roadway during the night hours.
