Washington officials said many banks failed to report progress on the Liberty Loan, hindering an accurate tally. Only 1.3 to 1.8 billion of the 2 billion sought had been accounted for, with estimates that subscriptions may reach many small bonds from $40 to $100. Officials urged banks to report quickly to determine whether the $100 million per day target can still be met in the final seven days.

Army seeks 70000 new recruits by June 30 1917
Washington June 12. The war department called for seventy thousand additional recruits to raise the regular army to war strength before 30 June 1917. Forty five thousand are needed immediately to fill new regiments of infantry and field artillery, with twenty five thousand more sought soon after to maintain a 300000 man force. Training facilities are ready. delay would waste time. The call targets single men 18 to 40 with no dependents and not in essential civilian work.

Arkansas Seeks 1918 National Press Association Meeting

Man Drowns in Little Missouri River Near Prescott
A white man named Evans drowned just after noon today in the Little Missouri River at Chambliss Spring about two miles above the Missouri Pacific bridge and seven miles from Prescott. Undertaker J. D. Cornish and assistant Robert Harrell departed at 8:15 this afternoon to return with the remains.

Greek King Abdicates Under Allied Pressure
Athens reports King Constantine I of Greece abdicated in favor of his second son Prince Alexander, aged 2 1/2. Crown Prince George, born July 19, 1890, also noted in dispatches as stepping aside. Premier Zaimis announced Constantine and Crown Prince George would depart Greece aboard a British warship, with Elas Sotia occupying by Allied forces.
