McRae Declines Brinkley Campaign Opening for Governor

Hon Thomas C McRae announces he declines the Brinkley campaign opening on the 15th. He cites premature political discussion given the crop season and economic concerns. He supports state credit restoration, efficient public spending, abolition of useless offices, labor and capital protection, immigration, law enforcement, school support, and a fair primary election. He plans no public campaign for months and seeks a summer primary.

First Cotton Bloom in Little Rock Reported

Little Rock June 12 The first cotton bloom of the season appeared on the Board of Trade Wednesday. Brought in from Fletcher plantation six miles east of Little Rock by E F Harper manager. Earliest on record with 1914 and 1918 blooms noted on June 12 and June 19 respectively.

State Highway Commission completes survey of Russeville Harrison route

Little Rock June 12 The State Highway Commission has completed the survey of the proposed Russeville Harrison highway and is now working on plans and profiles It will be a major link connecting the Arkansas river valley with the rich country north of the Ozarks The route crosses Pope and Newton counties exposing difficult engineering with a maximum grade of seven percent Citizens along the corridor back the project and press for rapid completion

Germany Faces Wool Shortage For Winter Uniforms

Germany sits cut off from world wool markets due to blockades, raising alarms over sufficient fabric for soldiers and civilians. Lioness Loose In Town Stirs Panic In Mount Vernon

A hectoring lioness escaped from a cage in Mount Vernon New York causing chaos. Airedale dogs and a cat were involved as police firefighters and volunteers pursued the dangerous animal through the town damaging property and forcing residents to seek safety.
