July Term Circuit Court Vypers Convenes Jury Docket Listed

The July term of the Nevada circuit court convenes July 10 at 9 80 o clock with Judge George KR Haynie presiding. The grand jury will consider criminal cases and the venire lists jurors and alternates from multiple townships and states including Alabama Missouri Georgia and Albany Caney Union and Emmet.

Governor grants pardons easing felony and fine

Friday Governor issued a pardon for Luther Manager convicted in Crawford county of a felony and sentenced to a year, while Os Laird in Montgomery county, convicted of carrying mixed weapons, had his $40 fine relieved by official proclamation stating he was acting as constable at the time.

Daughters and Sons Organize Council in Little Rock

Representatives of five Little Rock and Argenta chapters of the Daughters of Comedy and delegates from the Robt. C. Newton camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans organized the Council of Confederate organizations in Little Rock. The 27 member body will act as a clearing house for both groups. The first joint task is standardizing histories taught in schools and plans a shared club room. M. E. Dunaway was named to draft by laws. A. J. Wilson named president. district officers and chapter presidents named as vice presidents. Meetings feature Mrs. Mary Fortner as secretary and Judge J. W. Allen as treasurer.

Ray Gill Urged to Accept Secretaryship

Little Rock June 10 Ray Gill deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction is urged as successor to George Sengle who has resigned the secretaryship of the Fort Smith commercial organization. Gill likely to meet directors soon and present his case. New York men from all parts of Arkansas write to the Fort Smith board led by W H Johnson expressing confidence in Gill and his qualifications.

Paragould Citizen Appoints Levee Board Member

Paragould resident was named to the St. Pray vis Drainage Board replacing Joseph Muller who resigned. Governor Hays announced the appointment Friday.

Hughes Untied Republican Nominee in Third Ballot

In Little Rock on June 10 the Republicans named Justice Hughes on the third ballot. The Progressives then nominated Roosevelt by acclamation as favorite sons began releasing delegates. Cummins and Weeks shifted to Hughes, while the Progressives moved to Roosevelt and later backed Lodge as a shared nominee. The scene sparked a party storm and expedited Roosevelt’s renomination.

Russian Success Is Being Maintained

London reports the Russian offensive along a multi-front line from the Pripet to the Romanian border, with Stripa river and Selota Li river improvements. A telegram from Earle W Hodges states the Texas Press Association will meet in Texarkana with the Arkansas Association. The 1917 meeting is clinched for Texarkana, with a possible follow up trip to Highland orchard Pike county and Hot Springs after the convention.

Three Convicted in Local Liquor Case in Hot Springs

In Hot Springs Circuit Court three saloon men, Ketchum Dal Lasso and W. T. Rollins, were convicted for violating prohibition law and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. The Ketchum jury was out three minutes. Dal Lasso partnered with Vince Gage, recently convicted. The grand jury returned 10 indictments against nine persons. bench warrants were not served tonight.

Hearing Expected To Be Interesting In Little Rock

Public hearing on charges by the State Board of Control against Dr. E. P. Bledsoe is set for Saturday. Bledsoe seeks a continuance to perfect plans. The board and Bledsoe indicate much will be aired, including management of the institution and alleged earlier insubordination.
