River steamer Chester opens Missouri river freight link

Walter S. Dickey of the Kansas City Missouri River Navigation Company leads the Chester on its first post remodel trip from New Orleans to Kansas City, aiming to revive river traffic with regular freight runs and 13 trustees overseeing a $1,250,000 capital. About 150 Missouri merchants have signed contracts to use the route.

Carnegie details warn of ruinous steel war and price agreements

James E. Gayley, early Carnegie associate, testified before the Stanley steel trust committee that pretrust conduct bred ruinous competition. Evans of charges freed in Stark bribery case

Representative Owen J. Evans of Stark county who pleaded guilty to receiving a bribe and was fined 500 dollars will escape prosecution on charges of soliciting bribes from J. C. Sharer of Alliance and J. F. Weiss of Stark-Tuscora Brewing Co Canton. Judge Rathmelle nolled both charges as part of a deal related to testimony before the grand jury in a statewide bribery inquiry.

Family lived on five cents a day in six weeks

Peoria Illinois June 10 The appeal of Mrs William Bamber and her six children to police revealed they had lived on a total of five cents daily for six weeks with only 2.50 dollars left. Provisions ran out and neighbors helped. They will be cared for by Associated Charities.
