Judge Shaver set the bond at 2500 for Jno Daniels on a May 18 poisoning charge involving an aged woman. Tony King allegedly owned 400 acres and sought possession. King and wife drank poisoned whiskey, killing the wife. The court also ordered another 10 percent deposit payout at Citizens Bank. Record Breaking Attendance at Tendance Institute
The Nevada County Teachers Institute opened its third day with the largest enrollment in its history. Supt. Hirst led sessions on school questions, quiz work, and methods, with Miss Marcella Arthur and Mr. Potter delivering talks on extension work and the Chautauqua system. Todays enrollment reached 165 before noon, and a motion urged teachers to attend at least three days. The Prescott list includes A. J. McClanahan, G. N. Cox, Etta Ward, and others. Kitchener Aboard Hampshire Reported Lost Off Orkneys
London June 6 Admiral Jellicoe reports the British cruiser Hampshire with Earl Kitchener and his staff aboard sunk west of the Orkneys by likely a mine or torpedo. Four boats left, bodies and a capsized boat found, no survivors evident. Hampshire was en route to Archangel, a Devonshire class cruiser built in 1900, 8510 tons, armed with multiple guns and torpedo tubes, cost 4.25 million dollars.
