June 4 Washington hosts a large Confederate gathering as the United Confederate Veterans holds its twenty seventh annual reunion in the capital. Veterans, descendants, sponsors, and thousands of visitors arrive by rail, mingling with Grand Army men and Spanish War veterans. The event, though not formally opened, runs in full swing with camp life under the Capitol eaves and many lawmakers visiting.
Little Rock June 5 Senator Moncrief of Arkansas county acted as governor in Gov Broughs absence. He granted a pardon to Harry Amsted of Crittenden county who was convicted March 1 1917 of grand larceny and sentenced to eight years in prison.
