Summer Club formed for afternoon amusement
A new club named the Summer Club was organized at Mrs. Geo. Christopher's home to provide afternoon amusement during summer. Meeting twice monthly with alternated locations, the initial session featured contests and cheerful hosting by Mrs. Christopher for over twenty ladies. Charter members include Mesdames Pittman Logan Christopher Wilson Buchanan Wilson Evans Arnold Walker and Misses Powell Moncrief Christ opher Milburn Hin ton and Lauralee Powell with guests Mrs Bathurst Hatley and Hatny. Miss Powell won the prize.

Health Board Elects Officers And Plans Sanitary Push
The board of health elected officers led by President W F E Arnold and Vice President S J Hesterly. They urged city council to appoint a physician for Oliver Harrell’s smallpox case and enforce 15 day quarantine. They ordered septic tank checks at Park Hotel and a general cleanup to remove waste and prevent mosquitoes. Sub committees were created and the board adjourned to meet June 17 at Dr Sul Hesterly's office.

Remembered Properly Natal Day Observed Across Confederate States
Across the former Confederate states the one hundredth anniversary of Jefferson Davis birth was observed with ceremonies and services. Colonel Bennett Young led Kentucky Vets in Louisville as trains carried people to Davis birthplace in Fairview. Graves in Nashville and ceremonies in Hopkinsville marked the day. Banks and public buildings closed in Mobile and across the South with varied state observances from full holidays to school closures.
