New York June 2 cotton market nervous and irregular with a steady close. October slips from 12.74c to 12.62c amid late trading, closing at 12.68c as July and December also ease amid scant demand and favorable southern weather. Liverpool buying and naval battle reports dampen sentiment, with prices retreating to new lows for the move.
The governor pardoned Harvey Clanton who was convicted May 3, 1916, of grand larceny and sentenced to one year, and George Walker convicted May 1 of receiving stolen property, also sentenced to one year. Both men are from Washington county.
The State Game and Fish Commission heard a May report showing thirty three convictions for violations of the state game and fish law. Wardens under the commission secured the cases, with the findings submitted at the capitol meeting yesterday morning.
Convictions mainly for fishing in the closed season from March 1 to June 15 yielded average fines of about ten dollars. Offenders include R. J. Fernandes of Fort Smith age 13, J. G. Marsh of Prescott age 8, George Rison of Little Rock age 9, Herschel Neeley of Paragould age 1, and Wash Clibourn of Conway age 2. Wardens burned 68 unlawful nets on White River between Newport and Des Are and 23 nets on Cache River near Brassfield. Under the new law hoop or trammel nets are illegal and may be destroyed by wardens.

Little Rock June 8 reports the National Educational Association annual meeting to be held in Madison Square Garden July 8 9 with predicted attendance around forty thousand teachers including many from outside New York State Superintendent George B Cook attends and estimates at least fifty teachers from the state Former Presidents Taft Roosevelt and President Wilson will speak The auditorium capacity is described as twenty acres with motorcycles for messengers and acoustics nearly perfect A thousand dollar sounding board will be hung above the speakers stand The organizer hails it as a great meeting.
Little Rock dispatch reports progress on the Jefferson Highway with Sevier County forming a commission led by C. D. Goff Ed Tobin and Dr G H Henry. The Sevier span will cover 28 miles costing about 149000 dollars with high protest relief. Pike County link from Glenwood to Kirby spans 16 miles at 60000 dollars. Most counties including Little River Miller Polk Sebastian Scott Crawford Washington and Benton have been surveyed with plans nearly completed.

Reports from New York say Hot Springs will likely secure the 1918 biennial meeting of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The Arkansas delegation impressed officials and President Mrs Pennybaker praised Arkansas as a superb federation in the United States.
Samuel A. Dickson, mayor of Shreveport Louisiana, died aboard a New York Central train at Union Station in St. Louis today. He collapsed after boarding, while en route to New York, and was accompanied by his wife and Commissioner of Public Utilities Kahn.
Reports from New York on June 2 describe furious activity in automobile stocks amid circumstantial rumors of a massive merger with capitalization over $200 million. Named in the contemplated consolidation are the Willys-Overland, Chalmers Motor, Hudson Motor, and the United Motors Company, among others.

Bouck White, pastor of the church of social revolution, found guilty for burning the American flag and other emblems. He is sentenced to thirty days in the penitentiary and fined $1,000. Police continue the investigation into the flag burning.
In Galveston on June 2 agreement by both sides delays the cases against John Copeland George Ryan and George Tier for the February 1916 killing of William Black in Marshall Texas. Black formerly claimed priesthood and had spoken on Romanism A Menace to Civilization the night before his death with another lecture planned that evening. Trials are reset to October at the district court level.
Pittsburgh June 2 report by E P Pitzer at the National Association of Corporation Schools convention says newspapers are best for hiring. Morning editions reach higher grade office staff while evening papers attract mechanics and manual workers. Buy it in Prescott.
Washington reports that Carranza troops are dispersed in small commands under Obregon plan with 20,000 soldiers not massed near Pershing's column. Secretary Baker says Obregon will push bandits and may send more expeditions. No large entrenchments seen. Mexican advisers back Carranza note. U S to respond to withdrawal demand.
New York June 2 Major General George W Goethals said all interference with traffic through the Panama canal from slides has been overcome and future earth movements from tropical rains can be handled routinely following his arrival yesterday.
