Woman on trial for murder as arsenic evidence debated

In St Louis on June 2 a crowded court heard defense and state clash over arsenic poisoning in the Erder murder case. Dr Kennedy testified to a fatal dose despite scattered arsenic in the body, while defense counsel Johnson announced Mrs Dora E Doxey would testify, aiming to counter witnesses who claim she administered poison.

National Assembly of Civil Service Commissions Opens in Albany

The third biennial meeting of the National Assembly of Civil Service Commissions begins in Albany with large attendance. Governor Hughes welcomes visitors as Joseph C. Mason of Illinois discusses merit system progress, and Gen. John C. Mack addresses restrictions on political activity. A round table on municipal service follows luncheon remarks by Mason and Warren. Government obtains injunction against 25 railroads

In Hannibal Missouri Judge D P Dyer granted a temporary injunction restraining twenty five Western railroads from general interstate freight rate increases set to begin June 4. The suit, filed by the United States, claims a Sherman act violation. Attorneys Grosvenor and Judson presented the petition. Attorney General Wickersham certified the case as extremely important. The order remains in effect while the defendants may move to lift it. A three judge panel will hear proceedings with precedence over other matters.
