Goodwin Wins by 22 in Seventh District contest

Special to The News Little Rock June 2 2 21 p m report a majority of 22 votes for Goodwin in the contest between Minor Wallace and W S Goodwin for the Seventh district congressional nomination. The State Democratic Central committee examined poll books tally sheets and evidence and adjourned after naming seven canvassers. Several named individuals and places are cited while plans for Birmingham reunion events and a note on China's forestry future are included.

W. R. Coley Injured In Freight Yard Accident

W R Coley a brake man on a south bound freight train was crushed between a car and the depot platform while counting the train. He suffered a broken hip and possible internal injuries. Taken to Park Hotel for care, he was later removed to his Nashville area home for recovery.

Democratic State Convention Opens in Little Rock

The Democratic State Convention began at noon in Little Rock at the Auditorium Skating Rink. Delegates filled the hall as John T. Rutherford chaired the session and Governor A. S. Hayes served as temporary secretary. Delegates discuss electing four at large Denver delegates and whether officeholders should attend. The Prescott Hardware Company sold two carloads of furniture and one carload of buggies this week with more buggies expected next week.

Death of Sen James K Jones at his Washington home

Washington June 1 Senator James K Jones died this afternoon at his home on Nineteenth street after a period of illness. He had been in apparent good health the previous night and grew indisposed during the day. Son James I Jones Jr. said the exact cause was not determined. Jones had recently visited his daughter in Hope Arkansas and had returned to his law practice and duties at the Colorado building. He had carried heavy burdens during Senate service and was active at Mount Vernon Methodist Church.

Movement to defeat favored nominees at state Democratic convention

A caucus of delegates from Jefferson Cleveland Bradley Deen and other counties met at the Hotel Marion to name a slate for the state Democratic convention.
