Lightning Kills Three at Gettysburg National Guard Encampment

Ten Injured In Colorado Springs Railway Derailment

Ten persons were injured when two cars derailed on a Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek railway train at Fairview, two seriously. Twenty thousand mill workers began a strike on Thursday and rioted Friday morning in Bombay. British infantry suppressed the disorder injuring several officers and bystanders. one native was killed and six wounded. In New York, seventy eight delegates head to Chicago for the Independence party convention on a special train, with expected total aboard reaching about 125.

Reese Shot in Texas Campaign Clash

In Comanche Texas July 25 a dispute between EB Gaines and J W Reese led to Reese being mortally wounded. The bullet pierced above the right nipple and exited below the sixth rib, injuring the lung. Gaines was charged with assault with intent to murder and released on $2000 bond. Both men are Democratic primary rivals for the county representative seat, with bitter campaigning and torn loyalties. Reese and Gaines each have spouses. Reese is district clerk with six children. Gaines refused to back Senator Bailey before a second primary.

Slow Sinking of Former Governor Lanham in Texas

Weatherford Texas July 25 new details say former Governor Lanham, aged, is near death with emaciation over the last two weeks. Fritz Lanham, his son, reports he weighs perhaps ninety pounds and welcomes death after his wife’s death. The governor’s condition includes general collapse and serious kidney trouble.

Dallas July 25 Drs J B Gambrell and George W Truett led a camp meeting effort that raised cash and subscriptions totaling 10000 for the Baptist Memorial sanitarium. Construction of the Baylor Medical College science building is underway and slated for occupancy at the start of the fall term.
