Five Mexican Revolutionaries Held by Grand Jury
United States Commissioner Oliver kept five Mexican revolutionists in El Paso under grand jury review and set 9 o'clock Thursday to hear more testimony. Assistant DA Engle introduced a letter from Leccardo Tervino to Nepomureno Rios describing 200 bombs and plans for attacks in Sonora and Chihuahua.

Five Cars Pile Up In Open Switch Freight Wreck
An eastbound Texas and Pacific freight train derailed near Midland Texas after striking an open switch. Engineer Brigham Young sustained a broken leg. A Mexican worker is missing and presumed dead beneath the wreck. Five fruit cars were piled up while the engine overturned. the train carried silver and copper bullion from Mexico to New York.

Publishers Protest In Texas Freight Rate Row
The railroad commission received a protest from Texas newspaper men against a 10 percent freight rate increase on white paper entering the state. A Fort Worth meeting of newspaper owners drew up the protest, but action is blocked since all paper shipments are interstate and in carload lots.

Park Hotel Arrivals and Fruit Shipments Report
A list of arrivals at the Park Hotel includes H. C. Bormer and others from Chicago Lebanon and Memphis. P. & N. W. fruit shipments remain brisk with about 50 cars projected this season, doubling next year and rising yearly. Yesterday a passenger train delivered about 7 crates of peaches to Iron Mountain depot for distribution to various states with orchardists’ and railroad officials’ compliments.

Prohibitionist Ticket Nominated at Columbus Convention
Eugene W. Chafin of Chicago was chosen president and Prof. Aaron B. Watkins of Ada Ohio named vice president by the Prohibitionist national convention. Chafin won 936 votes on the third ballot after support from New York Indiana Wisconsin and his home state. Palmore of St Louis was the strongest rival with 274 and 418 votes on the first two ballots.

Night street carnival crowds fill Dallas Main Street
Dallas July 17 Main Street from Harwood to Lamar was closed to vehicles and flooded with pedestrians. About 40 000 people enjoyed a lively night mass with cowbells soap boxes tin basins and War dances around victims. Attendees wore grotesque costumes and Merry Widow hats as celebrants sang and paraded through the illuminated avenue.
