Farmers met to discuss boll weevil plans with Agent Evans and local leaders Hubbard Osteen Porterfield, signaling strong interest in protecting cotton crops and reducing pest damage. Fire destroyed Martins livery barn on Second Street but Fire Company led by Captain Boyett saved adjacent brick structures.

Fire damages shop on West Main but causes minor losses

Fire found about 11 last night in J. R. Harrell's West Main Street shop after local boys reported smoke. A hole in the floor near the front suggests a lighted cigar or cigarette as the cause. Prompt effort by passersby and nearby help extinguished the blaze with only nominal damage.

The Democratic convention committee finished its platform after long sessions and endorsed Lincoln birthday celebration nationwide. Senator Daniel and ex Senator Smith pledged to support the convention nominee. William Jennings Bryan listened by telephone to the proceedings and praised the platform as unanimously adopted. Thomas Ball of Texas drew cheers calling the platform a satisfaction convention.
