State Cotton Moves to Pine Bluff for Storage
Special to the News reports Superintendent James Pitcock of the Arkansas Penitentiary ordered state cotton moved from the state farm to a Pine Bluff compress after failing to find a 15 cent per pound market. About 650 bales were unloaded yesterday from the steam boat Lucile Nowland, with 1,250 bales already in binders to be moved tonight. Fire risk and high insurance on unprotected storage prompted the transfer, with 1,000 more bales to follow once ginned.
