Man Cleared of Double’s Crime in Arkansas Case
In Camden Nevada county farmer Frank Benton proved he is not Van Williams of Smith County Texas who allegedly shot his wife. Benton’s identity dispute led to a habeas corpus hearing before Judge E B McCall. Witnesses testified Benton lived on his Nevada county farm in 1900 1909 and that his mutilated hands matched no Texas suspect. A Texas wife identified photo evidence but could not swear the man was her husband. Deputy prosecutor released Benton after witnesses supported his alibi. he planned to return to farming.

A Faulkner Conway county survey by Dr. C W Garrison reports a remarkably low hookworm rate. From 2456 examinations in Faulkner County 29 were infected and 84 had other parasitic diseases. Among 1182 scholastic age examined 27 were infected.

In Conway county there were 1246 examinations with 13 infections and 89 other parasites. Of 605 scholastic age examinations there were seven infections. Dr Garrison says this is sufficient to establish a countywide record proving freedom from the disease.
