Fire discovered around noon yesterday threatened Dick Lewis home as sparks from a burning chimney set roof and interior of one room to blaze. Neighbors acted quickly preventing total destruction and estimating damage at about 100 dollars or more.
Harry K Thaw distributed gifts in the Tombs where he has resided since June 1906 after he shot Stanford White. Each keeper received cigars, matrons received half dozen handkerchiefs, male prisoners got chocolate and two cigars, and women prisoners received handkerchiefs.
A diamond brooch presented by EK A Short to the contestant with the highest vote total was awarded to Miss Julia Logan yesterday. Votes were counted by A M Ellsworth, F E Murrah, and F A Hensley with Miss Logan leading, followed by Ruth Moncrief, Kittie Aburrow, Marian Waller, and Mildred McRae. Scattering votes noted.
