General Diaz’s troops regain ground once captured near Monte Asolone and withstand heavy enemy artillery. German reports admit Italian initiative at Monte Partica and Monte Solaro but say attacks there failed.

Washington December 21 Major General Sharpe quartermaster general testified before the Senate military committee in a war preparations inquiry. He argued no clothing shortage exists aside from late overcoat orders and noted ample per capita shoe stock though many items suited to regulars were unsuitable for taller draftees. He said food supplies were ample and of high quality with no complaints.
St Louis Dec 21 Women are to be employed as street car conductors as vacancies arise according to an announcement by United Railways Company. Many candidates have completed half their training and expect to be fit January 1. Male conductors will not be discharged to make room for women and they will receive the same pay as men.
