Henry C. McCain quits as Deputy State Auditor and Insurance Commissioner and announces candidacy to succeed L. L. Coffman, who also seeks the office. McCain has served on Little Rock City Council and is son of the late prominent attorney Judge McCain.
Little Rock loses the Democratic State Convention for a second time as the State Committee votes 11 to 10 to hold the next gathering in Pine Bluff on June 3. Wm Stoddard cast the deciding vote using Claude Mann’s proxy from Malvern with Mann’s instructions to back Pine Bluff. Fort Smith backed Pine Bluff, seen by some as repayment of a debt, while Hot Springs earlier hosted the convention.
The Arkansas Department of Education received about 700 essays for rural life prize competition announced by Supt. Cook. A 13 year old Greenland Wahington county student is noted for a persuasive line on farm life. The Great Fire Insurance Co appointed Victor Sugarman of Little Rock as state agent.
Little Rock Dec 18 Attorney General Moose advised State Land Commissioner Dye that it is his opinion the tax on all automobiles for 1914 is due on January 1st and must be paid within ten days from that date. If not paid by the county collector the machine is subject to seizure.
