School Term Averages Rise and District Comparisons
Statistics show the year ending June 30 1918 had a nine day longer school term than the prior year with about two extra days in special districts. Property values rose, teachers increased in special districts, and balances favored common districts. Clarence Darrow will speak at the High School Auditorium next Monday night December 22.

Socialist speaker Clarke fined for obscene language in Texarkana court
W E Clarke known as a socialist speaker was found guilty after a long hearing in Justice Wheeler's court. He was fined 25 dollars plus costs and jailed awaiting bond. Clarke planned an appeal but had not filed bond by nightfall. He defended himself before the jury with a discourse on socialism rather than legal points.

Russellville Agricultural School Enrollment Soars After Holidays
Russellville Agricultural School reports an enrollment of 306 with about forty more expected after the holidays. Improvements costing about $60,000 will be completed, including dormitories, a combined girls dormitory, domestic science and art facilities, barns, breen house, infirmary, and a dining hall addition. About 60 boys and 26 girls are employed on campus with student labor funds covering most expenses.

No Adjustment Reached in Jonesboro Coopers Strike
Deputy Labor Commissioner M J McMahon returned from Jonesboro where he was called by the Coopers Union to help settle the strike. He found 28 of 36 Alfrey Heading Co. workers who refused to sign a no dues pledge had been discharged by managers Eddings and Hanley. A conference was requested and probable, but no definite settlement was reached.
