Finger prints secure marriage for Indian couple in Spokane
Neal Skumentia a 45 year old wealthy Rockford rancher and Louisa Larose an Wellprnit Indian girl had their fingerprints taken at the Spokane county Auditor office for a marriage license. The couple then married at St. Aloysius church in a lavish ceremony, marking the first time fingerprints were used in such a case. Louisa, claiming to be 18, wore a signet ring as Skumentia watched. Deputy Auditor J A Stewart issued the license and noted the bride’s elder relative Paul Oyakin leads Spokane Indians at the Interstate fair. The groom’s witness was Alexan Cushman educated Coeur d Alene Indian.

George E. Stone, agent for Spokane Co Washington, filed Governor Hays a requisition for the return of W K Bishop. Bishop, held in Pine Bluff on bigamy charges, is under indictment on Naomi Myer Bishop’s complaint. Governor Hays, who was in North Arkansas, will tackle the matter today.
