Announcement of Jno. P. Warren as candidate for Sheriff and Collector of Nevada County pending March primary. Warren, long-time resident and respected businessman, seeks voters’ support. Also notes numerous friends backing him and intent to meet voters ahead of the primary. Married notices and local updates follow.
Funds for the state penitentiary are depleted with only inmate contract and farm incomes left. About 1100 bales of cotton are held at the state farm as security for 15 cents or more, while contractors are paid but no large arrears are owed. The board cannot borrow, leaving resolution of the financial crisis unclear.
The Clarksville news notes a recent monthly test with high grades up to one hundred among students. Christmas plans include Ben Foster and others visiting home and various local residents traveling for the holiday. The Ft. Smith football game ended 24 to 10 due to illness.
