Nevada man promoted to head U S Bureau of Engraving
Wellington Dec 5 Secretary of the Treasury McAdoo announced the appointment of Chief Clerk James L Wilmeth as director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to succeed Joseph E Ralph who resigned weeks ago. Wilmeth, born in Nevada County Arkansas, rose from civil service clerk to chief clerk of the Treasury Department and will receive a 6000 per year salary.

Fourth Regiment May Be Organized
Little Rock December 7 The State Council of Defense adopted a resolution calling for a fourth regiment of infantry to be organized and equipped in Arkansas as part of the National Guard. The governor was told Washington would sanction and support additional volunteer units with guns and uniforms. Volunteers aged 18 to 21 and 31 to 45 were suggested, with 21 to 31 draft-age men eligible to join but subject to reassignment if drafted. The governor may appoint officers with Adjutant General England's recommendations guiding selections, and an early call for organization could follow.
