Promoters of the Million Dollar Fund in Little Rock prep for a busy start to the year. Donations total $109,390 with a tenth of the goal reached, boosting belief in reaching the full million. Donors may contribute land or agree to buy land at twice its appraised value, with payments starting after $200,000 is sold to attract factories and foster industrial enterprises.
The Davis Brundidge debate closes today in Fort Smith amid strong local anti-Davis sentiment. Davis faces his toughest proposition yet as he resists further time division while Brundidge vows to press the issue and force Davis to defend himself in public.
General Norwood promotes a sixty day, six dollar daily limit with no per diem for extensions and three dollars for a fifteen day extra session. A statewide initiative petition aims to place the reform on the September ballot, with Nixon supporting similar ideas and other states cited as models.
Acting Marshal Caruthers arrested a man named Robert Watts last Saturday. Watts admitted taking a bicycle owned by J. R. Harrell and later abandoning it in Waldo before seeking a reward by locating the missing machine. He faced a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the grand jury. A second bicycle, owned by E. E. Davis, resurfaced when Z. R. Green unloaded cargo yesterday.
A man long in the second hand trade at Hope sold out and bought a similar shop here. A bicycle found among his goods is identified by Mr. Davis as his stolen wheel. Green bought it from a black man matching the jail inmate description, seen as a likely accomplice. Several bicycles have vanished recently, and police suspect the prisoner’s involvement.
The Odd Fellows held their annual election last night selecting Mautz as Noble Grand C L Green as Vice Grand Henry Crow as Secretary and Dave Williamson as Treasurer for the coming year.
The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will meet with Mrs A P Burrus Thursday afternoon at 3 o clock. Every member is urged to attend to hear the report of State conventions by Mrs Rice our efficient delegate.
Robert Madsen of West Burlington Iowa was given up by four doctors after eight months of virulent liver trouble and yellow jandice. He was cured by Electric Bitters, praised as a heat stomach liver nerve and kidney remedy and blood purifier. Sold for 50 cents at Hesterly Drug Store.
L W Brower traveled to Little Rock last night to attend the major poultry show and review new lin progress in the city.
