The comptroller of the currency issued a call for a statement of the condition of national banks as of December 3. In New York financial observers expect the fifth annual call to bolster cash reserves and restore depositor confidence, hastening currency payments.
Hal Norwood, candidate for Attorney General, spends several days in Little Rock claiming he is the sole challenger in the race. State officials and penitentiary board members travel to locate a proposed bagging factory, while others face re election challenges and upcoming Southern League meetings are announced in Atlanta.
December 5 report says Arkansas cigarette ban starts at midnight December 31st but Little Rock dealers plan a test to keep selling. They expect brisk demand until January 1st and import cigarettes from other states to bypass the law, challenging enforcement in higher courts.
Little Rock December 5 report says the Bank of Commerce of Kansas City failed this morning for 40 million dollars. The banker’s collapse is expected to have little effect on Arkansas though the loss is sizable and broad.
