Chancery Court met with Judge J D Shaver presiding. One case, O Neal versus Scott Bros, ended in a verdict for the defendant for 182 dollars 25 cents. The day largely involved filings and legal steps for non resident defendants. The Village Vagabond play by the author of My Friend From Arkansas will be shown at the opera house on December 3.
Arkansas State Penitentiary Board meets to study establishing a cottonbagging factory on the convict farm with a committee including Governor Pindall. The board also parole denial for Reeder Vance and approves November accounts while holding cotton at not less than 15 cents per pound. The Supreme Court, in Waters Pierce Oil Co. v Van Elderson, dismisses suit. Gov Pindall appoints Robert L. Williams as Garland county collector amid political maneuvering and party tensions.
Washington December 1 The Democratic caucus in the house agreed to nominate John Sharp Williams to continue as minority leader for the sixtieth Congress Clayton of Alabama presided Ryan of Buffalo was secretary The session opened at 2 o clock and Representative Thomas of North Carolina placed Williams in nomination with no opposition.
The conference appointments announced by the Bishop assign Rev. T. D. Scott as pastor at Malvern Arkansas and Rev. T. H. Ware as presiding elder for the Prescott District.
Sheriff R L Williams must again face trial in Circuit Court on December 4. The docket notes he is charged with violating state tax collection laws by substituting poor or degraded currency in settlements. Williams admits the charge but plans to plead justification asserting benevolent motives in cashing scrip from teachers and others.
The sad news reports Miss Athanire East daughter of J. W. East Rosston died Friday morning at her father’s home. She had a history of mental illness and after Paris Green ingestion died Saturday morning. Funeral at Mt Moriah Sunday drew a large gathering.
