Woodmen official visits Little Rock chief counsel named

National Guard Plans School Rifle Clubs in Schools

Little Rock December 1 Instructions are being sent by National Guard headquarters to organize School Rifle Clubs. A minimum of ten members is required and faculty members may join. Under an act of Congress approved April 27 1914 schools receive free Krag rifles and ammunition from the War Department at a ratio of one rifle per five members and 80 rounds per member.

Pardon Granted for Forger with Exit Condition

Little Rock December 1 F H Rawlings of rere county pardoned on condition that he leave the state and never return after being convicted December 8 1915 of forgery and sentenced to two years in the penitentiary The pardon requires permanent exile from Arkansas.

Arkansas Officials Change Amid Thanksgiving Hue

Yesterday in Little Rock Arkansas state officials were reshuffled with John L. Bond becoming state superintendent of public instruction succeeding George B. Cook after eight years in office. Carroll D. Wood was sworn in again as associate justice of the Supreme Court, and John H. Page started his third term as commissioner of mines manufacture and agriculture. Governor elect Brough named C. H. Moses as private secretary and Roy Wood as assistant secretary. Deputy appointments followed as John D. Arbuckle announced T. W. Campbell as deputy and Wanda Arbuckle as stenographer. County posts also shifted with Lee Miles succeeding Joe Asher as county judge and Dan Quinn becoming county clerk.

Dominican Republic Under Military Rule Proclaimed

Washington reports Capt. H. S. Knapp commander of American naval forces in Dominican waters has proclaimed a military rule to break the deadlock in Santo Domingo and fulfill US treaty obligations. He notified Secretary Daniels, expected affairs to straighten by Dec 2, and said conditions are quiet with no military governor appointed.

Butter Making Contest Scores Show Mixed Quality

The seventh month results of the Arkansas State Butter Making Conven tion reveal a slight drop in overall butter quality with off flavors tied to feed and stable air. Some entries improved, but winter preparations remain crucial as poorly ventilated milk absorbs taints. Entries stay steady and the contest tightens with several contestants scoring 90 or higher and in reach of the three prizes. Next sample to be scored on December 6, 1916, with contestants including Mrs. JH Barrett, Mrs. Alvin Dickson, Mrs. W A Bower, Mrs. K P Lea, Mrs. T C Folbre Jr, Mrs J E Jones, Mrs W L Heard, and Mrs C F Rose.
