A large meteor lit the night sky around 11 o'clock and exploded after traversing most of the heavens. The blast was heard minutes later, waking sleepers and causing alarm as the light outshone the moon and dimmed electric lights. Reports say the sound was heard in Texarkana Hope and other Iron Mountain telegraph points.
Director Alciatore notes cooler weather but no rain, predicting the Arkansas River will fall below all prior August lows. The gauge reads under 1.5 feet, the lowest since 1874, with August levels never this low before. Navigation suspended. locals wade the river above the city as prospects for rain fade.

Harry Vanhart, a convict on the Capitol building project, was stung and convulsing after a large centipede crawled from his leg as he stood 60 feet above ground. A bricklayer rushed to aid him, the man was lowered to safety, and Vanhart recovered with medical help.
Work to replace torn and defective material at the Arkansas State Capitol has started with 112 convicts employed daily. Interior steel is stripped and the roof removed in many areas while the first floor is cut except for a central section to allow office moves. Concrete galleries near the roof are planned for replacement with reinforced concrete.
