The News reports the Great Clarity contest wraps up today at 6 PM with vote tallies up to noon and final results likely by tonight or Monday. Prizes include a $50 upright piano, a Studebaker Runabout, scholarships, a steel kitchen range, a sewing machine, a 12 gauge take-down shotgun, and a jeweled Elgin watch.
The listing shows candidates across seven districts with names and vote totals for Prescott and various towns. Notable figures include Mrs. Dale Wilson in District No. 1 with 94,559 votes and Miss Bettie Brown with 12,157. District No. 3 includes Miss Ruth Sutton and Miss Lona Barton among others with smaller tallies.
In New Haven on August 15 the Catholic Total Abstinence union adopted resolutions denouncing liquor traffic and urging sanctification of Sunday. The group called for excluding liquor workers from Catholic societies and stated no need to apologize for their stance against drunkenness and riotous living.

Mrs Ed Maclair of near Pensacola Fla was assaulted by an unknown Black man who cursed lynching Shaw as he disabled her. A sheriff posse pursued the attacker as a white hot crowd gathered at the jail. Also delegates to the International Typographical Union chose St Joseph Mo for the next convention and adopted a rule to open union offices to all members who can obtain employment.
The legislative investigation committee in Georgia will continue work and prepare a full report when the extra session starts on August 24. Witness examinations will resume next Tuesday with four days set for hearings, and auditors examining penitentiary books will report to the committee late next week.
A Chancery court case filed this morning tests title to Cumberland Presbyterian church property after a union with the Presbyterian church. Previous suits in multiple states have varied outcomes, with one Harrison Boone county suit dismissed last year. The Mound Prairie Presbytery commission hired McRae & Tompkins to pursue a test suit, whose outcome is eagerly watched in the region.
In Chillicothe Texas on August 15 Tom Robbins and Ernest Smith, brothers in law, died from knife wounds after a street duel fought over a months old misunderstanding. An inquest led by Justice Randell found both deaths caused by mutual knife wounds. Separately in Nacogdoches Texas on August 15 Sheriff Blackburn captured Field Pascal, a negro wanted in Magnolia Arkansas for a murder committed over two years ago. Pascal boasted of defying officers and keeping a gun nearby. A standing reward for his capture had been offered two years prior.
Tom Billingsley visits relatives in Okolona while Fay East hosts Prescott guests Misses Buchanan and Haynie visit from Prescott. The Farmers' Cotton Oil Co adopts a 70 hp Scotch Marine boiler boosting Okolona Oil Milk operations. Elder Percy G Cross assists a revival with pastor E S Allhands. Berlin reports the Parsival dirigible flight lasting two hours forty five minutes with stable handling and a landing at the starting point.
Brownwood Texas city council grants a thirty year franchise to the Ingram company to supply natural or manufactured gas. If natural supply is inadequate the firm may manufacture gas. Rates set at 1.00 and 1.40 per unit. First well to start by Sept 1 with multiple wells planned for gas and oil.
Arthur Griggs, the San Antonio base ball club's last second baseman, is sold to Toledo in the American association but will not report until next season. Griggs, famed as the league’s best all around player, has played every position for San Antonio. San Antonio also lands Dodty Stark from Little Rock for fifty dollars.
Dallas Aug 15 plans are on foot to establish Republican campaign headquarters in Dallas. The entire campaign for the state ticket will be conducted from Dallas with formal details to be decided after Colonel John N Simpson, candidate for governor, returns to the city within a week.
In Kaufman Texas Aug Jo the commissioners court raised property renditions for many Terrell citizens. A carload were cited to appear and justify why their assessments should not be increased. A few gave satisfactory reasons but most failed to convince the court.
J Frank Cordova, once a South River clergyman who eloped with choir singer Julia Bowne, is released from state prison after nearly four years. He departed Trenton in an automobile to begin his new life.
Ate Toadstools Rochester Aug 15. Harry Jarrell of Baltimore and his sister in law Mrs Lillian Jarrell die from watt toadstools mistaken for mushrooms. Mrs Jarrell's husband and her mother Mrs Margaret H Schetb are critically ill.
A town in Tula province near Count Tolstal's estate reports 15 deaths from cholera. Tsaritsyn records 225 cases and 150 deaths since the outbreak began, as the epidemic grows more severe.
Two girls Bertie Jenkins and Willie Elkins were playing at Lake Polk when they sustained injuries. Jenkins broke an ankle while Elkins sprained a wrist in the incident reported at Temple on August 15.
James Leslie Bond of Yellville Marion county was appointed Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction of Arkansas by Superintendent Cook after reviewing many applicants. Bond has twelve years in common and high school work in the state and is described as a competent and refined man. He is 31, married, and well regarded.
The Weather Bureau issued a forecast of a barometric disturbance moving from the Rocky Mountain districts to the Atlantic coast from Aug 14 to 18. Rain is expected across the plains states central valleys and lake region Sunday and Monday and Atlantic states Monday and Tuesday with rising temperatures then a drop in temperature.
