Prescott residents seek relief from heat at Lackland Springs twelve miles from Prescott. July and August bring many campers and sport lovers, with cold spring water used for tea and rumored medicinal virtues. The area offers fishing, hunting, dairy supply from nearby farmers, and potential for development into a resort.
The scene is lively with merry making and many names listed among visitors this week. Fishing in Caney creek yields excellent trout, while the nearby bottoms offer good camping. Lackland lies twelve miles from Prescott, making a quick return possible, and many plan tents across the hillsides toward the springs in three directions next week.

A horse was reported stolen from the lot of J H Elder on Monday night. Local authorities investigate the theft as neighbors report no other disturbances and request any information leading to the suspect or recovered animal.
A horse stolen from J H Elder was found by Col Burke and Duncan Brown grazing in Burke's pasture after slipping its tether. The thief rode in from Emmet, backed toward Prescott, but fled toward Gray's Lake road. Sheriff Hood led a night posse. no further clues emerged. Two mail clerks and seven passengers were injured in the wreck accompanying the tale.
Fifty five enlisted men were mustered in at Prescott last night. Officers elected include Capt. A. G. Winslow and 1st Lt. W. A. Smith with new appointees 2nd Lt. C. H. Ellsworth 1st Sgt. Chas. Powell QM Sgt. C. H. McCuller 1st Duty Sgt. Buck Haw ley 2nd Duty Sgt. Clarence Gordon. Corporals named Sam Munn Jno. Dougan Garland Leverett Jno. Patt on A. F. Kizer Fred Nichols. Misses Inez Eunice Nelson returned to Texarkana with Miss Marian Aburrow. For sale cheap top buggy and harness.
Clyde Buchanan mail clerk on No. 6 was seriously injured in a wreck near Dallas. He suffered a bad knee wound two fractured ribs and a head cut. He arrived in Prescott on No. 24 and was taken home for treatment. His prognosis is good and his salary will continue during recovery.
The will of George T. Sparks, a Ft. Smith banker, probated yesterday names Sparks Memorial Hospital with a $25,000 bequest on condition the Belle Point name changes. He leaves $500 to a housekeeper, $5,000 to minister funds, $1,000 to ten nieces and nephews each, $5,000 to George Sparks of Kansas City, and furnishes Medora Sparks with the family home. Executors are David B. Sparks and Frank Handlin with trust provisions for James Mitchell and Medora. Investments total over $1 million across several regions.
