Prescott League Conference Session Highlights and Plans

Veterans meet to plan Decoration Day and Birmingham reunion

Under Commander L Moncrief the Walter Bragg Camp UCV met at the courthouse at 10 o clock Saturday to arrange a Decoration Day for deaf comrades and to appoint delegates to the Birmingham reunion. A three member committee was named to contact the Daughters of the Confederacy for grave decoration at DeAnn Cemetery. O L Moncrief and BE W Dougan chosen as delegates. John Lewis made an honorary member.

Increased Acreage Report From Arkansas Planters

Tom Steele of Scott's Crossing says cotton planters in his area will raise acreage this year as ground is in excellent condition and favorable weather aids seedbed. Labor shortages persist with rail shops cutting jobs and some urban workers returning to farms. foreigners contribute limited help, Italians used further south.

County Convention Elects Leaders and Delegates in Nevada County

The Nevada County Democratic Convention met at the courthouse selecting Tompkins as chairman and McKenzie as secretary. Tompkins, Wright, and others were named to the county central committee with district committeemen elected for railroad, congressional, judicial, and senatorial posts. A committee of three named delegates to state and other conventions, with full slate of delegates listed for each.

State Democratic Central Committee to Meet in Little Rock

The State Democratic Central Committee will convene Friday to canvass the March 25 primary results and settle the attorney general race. Hal L. Norwood leads with a large plurality while P R Andrews claims a majority of votes. The meeting set at Hotel Marion Friday to count the ballots.

Jim Langford, colored, fired at his former wife Saturday night during a townwide disturbance. The woman was shot in the thigh but survived. Langford was jailed and faces a preliminary hearing likely this week.

Kirby Returns to Arkansas Supreme Court Appearance

General William F. Kirby of Texarkana appeared in the Arkansas Supreme Court after several days at his Texarkana home. Kirby had been a gubernatorial candidate before the Democratic primary, with Dan Taylor of Pine Bluff representing the state during his absence.
