Pottstown area builders and contractors expect a busy year with home construction leading projects, plus a church and two bank buildings. Despite national forecasts of a housing downturn in 1953, local plans show optimism as down payment and material restrictions have eased. Early-year commitments may expand in later 1953 negotiations, per Earl M Kerstetter.
The Sunnybrook ballroom hosts a seven day home building showcase from March 19 to 25 sponsored by Pottstown Building Industries and Exchange. Edmund K. Lindemuth chairs the planning committee with James C. Wilke and Allen K. Davidheiser among the Potts-town builders. The event features 70 booths, with half already sold, displaying model kitchens, modern heating, folding doors, and other new home products from local contractors and suppliers.

James Frank Williams Daven port alias Frankie Davis, 27, Nashville Tenn, pleaded guilty before Judge Harald G. Knight to participating in an obscene exhibition as a female impersonator at Art's Diner on West High Street Nov 22. He is to pay costs and serve three months in county prison from Nov 22. Davis, billed as the male Dagmar, was arrested with Frank Quinn 33 Brooklyn and Jay Colby 32 New York, plus Arthur Sizer, owner. The others await hearings on similar charges. Sizer has sold the place. Davis was cleared on a State Liquor Control act charge. State Liquor Control officer Ralph H. Schwartz testified.
An arson specialist will investigate the $25,000 barn fire that killed 15 cows in Pennsburg RD 1 early Sunday. State Police Sgt. Charles Taylor will lead the inquiry, after a call from Montgomery County fire marshal Wilson Green delayed him. Green and Red Hill fire chief Lester Miller note the case is highly suspicious and a clue hunt will begin once Taylor visits the scene.
Mrs Mary E Mollie Stalker 73 widowed householder at 836 North Charlotte crafts holiday greetings from garfish scales and unborn whelk shells. Since 1938 she has turned shells seeds and pods into three dimensional art for cards and decorations at her Hanover Street home. Her 1952 Season s Greetings card features a poinsettia built from garfish scales with whelk centers.

A fire at Emil Standhart yhidts farm in New Berlinville destroyed a shed a garage and a corn crib along with 31 small pigs and two brood sows valued at 6400. The blaze began around 4 pm likely from an infrared lamp short circuit. Liberty Fire Company and neighboring teams battled the flames for three hours.
About 650 Potts town residents are among 12 046 Montgomery County voters who may lose their 1953 voting rights for not voting in 1951 and 1952. Letters warn that failure to seek reinstatement within 10 days will remove names from permanent registration. County records show 197 322 eligible voters for the presidential election and 14 595 reinstatement notices issued last year.
