Third Textile Plant Closes in Pottstown Area

A 91-year-old Pottstown area man and his 80-year-old wife will celebrate 60 years of marriage. Karl Pine and his wife, now in Boyertown RD 1, came from Hamburg Germany 15 years ago before starting a new life in the United States. He learned English at night school aged 75, the oldest student ever at the Philadelphia night school, while also tending a summer vegetable garden. Their son William F. Pine, of Ridge Road, manages Pottstown Coppersmithing and Pottstown Metal Products, a Cochrane Corp. division. The couple left Germany ahead of World War II after fear of Hitler’s rise and lived in Philadelphia before relocating to their current home.
