Congress moves toward final action on anti-inflation and housing bills despite President Truman. Senate advances a housing bill sans key subsidies and eyes 4 p.m. vote tomorrow on the anti-inflation measure. Republicans split on the Taft-Ellender-Wagner plan with McCarthy supporting a compromise.
New York Aug 6 Ameri can Communists re elected 12 leaders indicted on charges of advocating overthrow of the U S government They officially back Henry A Wallace for President William Z Foster renamed national chairman A 3000 word platform adopted at the conv ention urged Americans who hate Fascism to defend Communists and praised Russia as a bulwark for peace The convention backed the Progressive party without seeking a special position and urged friendship with the Soviet Union and a return to Roosevelt era peace policies.
Aug 6 Phoeniaville reports Col. William T. Fletcher, former chief of staff of the Eighth Army during World War II, has been named professor of military tactics at Valley Forge Military Academy. Fletcher will bring decades of combat and strategic experience to the curriculum.

MOSCOW Aug 6 United States Britain and France plan additional talks with Soviet officials before any final accords from the four power discussions with Foreign Minister Molotov. A high ranking source indicated a possible Sunday meeting with the Russians and noted the three hour session today without Stalin. Walter Bedell Smith Yves Chataigneau and Frank Roberts attended the Kremlin meeting as negotiations continued into next week with cautious optimism.
Rep. McDowell says the United States sent a significant amount of uranium metal to Russia as late as 1945, following 2720 pounds of uranium compounds in 1943. Seward Potter says the Army and Navy knew of uranium nitrate and oxide shipments five years ago but did not halt them.
National Guardsmen and highway patrols curbed unrest in Benton Tennessee after election clashes left two dead and five wounded. Gov. McCord ordered troops with 30 patrolmen to keep streets clear and arrest eight for concealed weapons. Crump machine suffered a major defeat as John Mitchell won the U S Senate nomination in the volatile region.
In Harrisburg on August 6 a majority of the State Milk Control commission backed a retail milk price rise to 1.42 per quart despite pleas to raise by a penny more. Democrats John J. Snyder and Charles J. O’Loughlin showed no sign of yielding, while Chairman H. N. Cobb, a Republican, favored a 2.15 cent increase on August 16 as proposed, but left room to sign a smaller plan if dairy interests agree.
Berlin Aug 6 The Soviet news agency charged that British and American planes violated flight regulations 62 times in five days and hinted planes may be forced to land. This marks the first mention of such action since the Anglo American airlift began. The agency cited low level flights over Soviet airports and towns between July 31 and Aug 4. French authorities said they would evacuate as many French families as possible from Berlin due to supply difficulties. Western authorities reported attempts to resolve blocked east mark accounts failed due to Bank of Issue in the Russian sector conditions.

Pottstown area Marines return home after WWII. William L. Fizz survived Guadalcanal’s first months with the Eighth Marine Regiment. He plans to move into a one stall garage with his wife Bonnie while awaiting a family home, following a long housing struggle and temporary stays in garages.
Funeral rites for Rev William H McCook rector of St Aloysius Catholic church are described. Parishioners in Sunday best and work clothes filed past the open bier as prayers and rosaries were recited. Rites began with a 8 am requiem high mass for 300 children, then the body was moved to the church for solemn rites led by Rev David H Leahy.

Four local fire companies and the police department exude certainty about the upcoming water battle on Manatawny creek at 1 pm Sunday. Three Reading Firestone employees were rushed to Pottsville hospital after their car swerved to avoid a collision near Monocacy Hill six miles west of Pottsville. Frank Koleczek, 24, driver, sustained a punctured lung and multiple rib fractures. Anthony Dziamba, 24, and Stanley Pipala were also hurt with Pipala suffering a severe head injury. A fourth man, John E. Baer of Birdsboro, provided the account of the crash. Police traced the other car to Perry County and continued inquiries into its license number and driver.
